members and one guest attended.
(press report)
Kintail
outdoor centre was the destination for Forfar and District Hillwalking Club’s
June weekend with nineteen members attending. On Saturday the bright skies saw
twelve members decide on an east to west traverse of the South Glen Shiel ridge,
starting at the Cluanie Inn, the old road was followed for a few kilometres
before leaving the road for a step ascent to Creag a’ Mhaim (947 metres), from
there the whole ridge could be seen stretching out for some 11km, the next 5

long descent to Glen Shiel. Four members were on the north side of Loch
Cluanie starting at Lundie to climb Carn Ghluasaid, Sgurr nan Conbhairean and
Sail Chaorainn. The remaining three members walked from the Kintail outdoor
centre to the Bealach an Sgairne where one walker climbed Beinn Fhada and A’
Ghlas-bheinn and two walked further along the stalkers path and climbed Sgurr

July 6th is the meet secretaries mystery meet, be at the Myre car

The Committee has responded to requests from a number of members
to introduce additional Club walks. These could probably be best described as
more local, slightly shorter or less strenuous social walks. The plan is to
trial this idea in August and October with walks to the Airlie ridge and Glen
Isla, this would be a good opportunity for potential new members to come along
for an introduction to hill walking, more information on these walks and other
news can be obtained from the
club’s website
www.fdhwc.org.uk.

for refreshments was a sheltered spot in the sunshine before climbing the 300
metre rocky ridge to the top of Ben Cruachan (1126 metres) where the low cloud
broke for some nice views over Loch Etive, two members decided to return to the
dam, while the remainder continued with an easy scramble down Cruachan’s east
ridge in a traverse along the ridge surrounding the reservoir to the next top,
Drochaid Ghlas (1009 metres) and eastwards to Stob Diamh (998 metres), after a
