of A’ Chailleach (930 metres), after a brief stop the walkers headed North into
the deep little glen of Allt Cuil na Caillich and up to Carn Slugain (920
metres). With the cloud down low and in windy conditions a fence line was
followed past a series of minor tops and Cairns reaching Carn Ballach in
sunshine for a spot of lunch behind small rocks out of the wind. The final part
of the walk was over Carn Ban and up to Carn Dearg (945 metres), along the ridge
before descending into Gleann Ballach and following the river Calder back out to

(Press Report)
The Forfar and District Hill Walking Club’s August meet was to Glen Lochay on
Sunday the 15th of August. They drove through very misty conditions
virtually all the way to Killin until the sun broke through just as they turned
into Glen Lochay. From the end of the public road, the group followed the track
up the River Lochay as far as Batavaime before taking to the hills for the steep
pull up Sron nan Eun. From there the gradient eased off before the final rocky
ascent to the summit of Creag Mhor (1047 metres). On such a clear warm day, the
group took time to admire the view, easily picking out landmarks such as Ben
Nevis to the north and Ben Cruachan to the west. Descending north, frequent
stops were made to refill water bottles. A final long stop had to be made at
the col in the warm sunshine before the walkers could sum up the energy for the
steep 500-metre climb up the southwest ridge of Beinn Heasgarnich. The most
enjoyable part of the day, a one-and- a-half kilometre walk along the ridge to
the summit cairn at 1076 metres followed this. A steep descent westwards and
then south took the walkers down to a track, which led back to the car park
almost ten hours after setting off.

A disappointing turnout (9, Linda S., Colin, Mel, Dorothy L., Brian L., Janet, Brian C., John E. and Davie ) to a traditionally busy weekend - very remote setting in the White House, Barrisdale. Very comfortable. Coal supplied by Mather Coal Merchants (Nae money in sheep!). John Easson easily started the generator (and taught many others how to start it). Lunnie Bheinn. Meal Buidhe, Ladhar Bheinn, Ben Aden all conquered during the weekend. Ripped off by Murray Morrison, Arnisdale Ferry Services? Looking forward to next weekend in Dundonnel, in June.
