Thanks to Graham Wilkingson, president of Carnoustie Camera Club, who acted as judge.  Graham's comments on all entries can be found here Judge's comments.  All entrants were given a letter (A to I), so only the prints with the entrant's name written on them (Brian C and Bruce) were known to the judge.

Open Meeting - Monday 2nd June
5 Cyclists and 9 walkers turned up for a cycle /ramble in Montreathmont Forest.  They met north of Cross Roads NO552524 to be confronted by an irate farmer who thought we were painting his fence posts!  There was no open meeting afterwards.  Thanks to Margaret Baird who guided the walkers.  Not many birds, but lots of flowers.

October 2006 : Davie's Bourach work completed   Bob went up on had been up on Friday 29th and Saturday 30th September, undercoating then patching and painting the door. A further work party went up on Sunday 8th October. repaired the hole at the right hand side of the door, various other holes round the back, and took away a huge bag of rubbish. Carolyn brought a lovely cake which we had to celebrate the completion of the work.  Well done to everyone involved.  For once, someone other than Brian forgot his pieces, and Brian was very generous handing out goodies to the person involved. New Honorary Members

John and Rita Norrie joined the club in June 1966. To mark their 40 years of membership, the committee awarded them honorary membership at the Open Meeting held on 5th June.  Carolyn Smith baked and decorated a cake for them.  Thanks Carolyn.

Next open meeting will be in Dykehead Hotel on Monday Wednesday 2nd June.  Meet a 7pm for a navigation exercise - bring compass and map of Clova/Prosen. Open meeting will be held afterwards in the Dykehead Hotel, approxiametely 9pm.  Plan is to navigate in the Airlie monument area, for anyone turning up late.

Madeira success
The first of our special
40th Anniversary celebrations was very successful.  17 members and 5 others spent a week on the beautiful island of Madeira.  Much walking took places.  Reports and photographs to follow

 

Saturday 20th September.: John McDonald completed his Munros on Liathach : - Spidean a' Chiore Leith and finally Mullach an Rathain during a club weekend meet to Torridon on    Thirteen club members and four friends joined John to congratulate him on top.  The customary dram was taken, preceded by champagne.  Weather generally clear on Spidean and over the pinnacles, but John even managed to arrange a hail shower just prior to Mullach, followed by followed by hazy sunshine for his celebrations.

Tuesday 28th April : Winnie Reid, past member and munroist (1983) has passed away.  Winnie is survived by her husband Davie, another past member.   Winnie and Davie completed their Munros together on a glorious winter day on Beinn Sgulaird during a club weekend to Onich in March 1983.

Wed 16th April : Open Meeting followed by talk from David Downie, Scottish Natural Heritage - only 13 attended a very interesting talk.

Tuesday 1st April : Second meeting to discuss possibility of a foreign meet took place at
7.30pm in the Lounge bar, Commercial Inn, Letham.   Attendees  Angus, Linda, Colin, Brian, Dorothy, Brian, Janet, Tom.   Madiera looks like the likely venue.  Meeting early May to finalise booking.

19th March: 7 members attended the Mountain Mind Quiz in Dewars Ice Rink, Perth hosted by Perth Mountainerring Club.  One spectator and two teams of 3.   Teams scored 47 and 50 out of102, and finished in a respectable position.

12th March: 9 members attended an informal meeting in the Commercial Inn, Letham to discuss the possibility of a foreign meet. October 5th was set as the date. Angus and Colin are to investigate - Madeira, Sardinia, Corsica, Mallorca, Greece, Crete.

5th February: open meeting excellent speaker in John Rodgers from Scone - Wind River Ranges, Wyoming

19th January:  What a turnout!. The annual high tea attracted 33 members out on the hills on two walks in Glen Lethnott and in Glen Esk.  See Meet Reports.   High tea was taken in the Panmure arms, Edzell - 46 members and guests attended 

8th January: Open Meeting followed by a Navigation Training session and showing of the BMC winter training video, which can be borrowed (current holder is Colin).

27th December meet washed out
Poor weather forecast forced this meet to be cancelled.  No-one contacted Colin for Saturday meet so President, family and 5 guests walked to Davie's Bourach.  Group of 4 went to Glen Etive on the same day to climb Beinn Fhionnlaidh in wet cloudy conditions.

Newsletter 21 has been published - those with email addresses have been emailed at copy to cut down on postage costs.  This appears to have been unsuccessful so those people have been sent a paper copy too. 

4th December : Open Meeting followed by talk on China by our own Peter Hargraves - excellent set of digital images accompanied by Peter's witty reflections on the country - thanks Peter.

6th November : Cheese & Wine /Quiz night;   Well attended.   Photos by John D.  Slides by Colin.   Winners: The Coull and Norrie team. 

26 October 2002  New Munroist : Club member Bill Mill (76), Arbroath completed his Munros on Saturday 26th October on Beinn Challum.  Eleven club members and two friends joined Bill on the summit.   Bill provided the traditional whisky and clootie dumpling, taken in blizzard like conditions on the summit. The president presented Bill with the customary tankard on behalf of the club.  Weather was showery with lots of snow above 2000ft.   Bill intends to keep walking and promises to attend more club meets now that his work is done.  The scroll has been updated with Bill's name and his name submitted to the Scottish Mountaineering Club for recording purposes.
